About Meta
Meta builds technologies that help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses. When Facebook launched in 2004, it changed the way people connect. Apps like Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp further empowered billions around the world. Now, Meta is moving beyond 2D screens toward immersive experiences like augmented and virtual reality to help build the next evolution in social technology.
Peering with Meta
To support the Meta family of products, Meta operates an international network and welcomes the opportunity to engage in settlement-free interconnection (i.e., peering) with responsible Border Gateway Protocol (“BGP”) speakers that meet our minimum requirements and are present at mutual Internet Exchanges or data-center facilities.
Peering Requests
Peering requests must be submitted to Meta via online form through www.facebook.com/peering. Meta reserves the right to accept or reject a peering request in its sole discretion and may but has no obligation to explain the basis for its decision.
Peering Systems
Meta operates peering on two distinct autonomous systems (AS Numbers):
- AS32934, which is the global AS, provides access to most Meta products and is the most common peering option
- AS63293, which provides Meta's most popular content and peers at a smaller number of locations
Technical Requirements
- A publicly routable and visible unique ASN
- Network edge router capable of running BGP
- BGP session authentication as mutually agreed
- Complete and updated PeeringDB entry and profile
- 24/7 NOC Contact provided at the time of session establishment
- Peering partner must adhere to the technical requirements of each applicable Internet Exchange.
- When feasible, Meta prefers to have bi-lateral sessions configured across all common Internet Exchanges, with networks we serve traffic to.
General terms
Each party bears its own expenses of reaching the peering site and responsibility for any necessary licenses, authorizations or other regulatory approvals.
Meta may suspend or terminate connectivity with the peering partner at any time with or without notice.
Peering partner will make every effort to avoid malicious, illegal, or other undesirable content on its network.
Meta reserves the right to modify this peering policy and its requirements at any time.
These policies operate solely as guidelines and neither this policy nor the act of peering create any binding obligations, or promises by Meta in connection with network performance, peering arrangements or otherwise.
